3 Ways to Throw an Eco-Friendly Party This Summer

Discover how to throw an eco-friendly party!

On Memorial Day, we gather together to honor our country’s fallen heroes. If you’re like most Americans, you plan to spend the holiday with family and friends partaking in an old-fashioned cookout. Plastic cups and paper plates might allow for easier cleanup, but their materials are hard on our environment and wildlife. Discover how to throw an eco-friendly Memorial Day party with the following tips.

Avoid Purchasing Plastic

Plastic pollution is piling up every year, but thankfully there are ways that you can decrease your family’s impact. This summer, consider avoiding all plastic items, such as forks, knives, and cups. Rather than purchasing water bottles for your party, provide several refillable filtered pitchers. Instead of plastic cutlery or plates, consider biodegradable and compostable options. Instead of plastic straws, opt for paper.

Encourage Guests to Recycle

According to a 2016 article in Forbes Magazine, people purchase one million plastic bottles per minute. Of that one million plastic bottles, only 23% of them are recycled within the United States. Encourage your guests to recycle by setting out several clearly marked bins next to the trash cans. Setting out several recycling and waste bins will also decrease the amount of cleanup you have to do once the party is over.

Opt For Eco-Friendly Decorations

Balloons and streamers may look festive, but they are made from harmful materials that do not recycle or decompose. Rather than spending money on decorations, make your own! Not only are homemade decorations less expensive, but they are kinder to our environment. Consider repurposing cardboard boxes to make banners and parking signs.
